Terms of Warranty
The warranty on XLpoly is for either faulty manufacture or UV degradation. It does not cover any of the reasons why (as indicated below) this XLpoly tunnel cover should have failed. However if it fails due to faulty manufacture within the first 12 months of its life then XL Horticulture Ltd. will supply another sheet of the same size and type completely free of charge. If after the end of 12 months and before the end of the fifth year the film should fail through faulty manufacture we will allow1/60th off the price of a new XLpoly replacement cover for every month that the film falls short of its five year UV warranted period.
The conditions of this warranty apply only in the UK and Eire.
Special conditions
All existing but degraded Anti Hot Spot Tape must be replaced or covered with XL Horticulture’s own Anti Hot Spot tape or our Anti Hot Spot Repair tape every time the cover is replaced. All areas where polythene comes into contact with steel work must be covered with an approved Anti Hot Spot Tape manufactured from PE foam, not PVC foam.
As is common within the industry this warranty is limited to the supply of polythene only and we regret that we can notentertain claims for either labour or consequential loss.
To Claim
At the first sign of damage contact the XL Horticulture Distributor that you purchased the polythene through.Take photos/videos of the structure as a whole from both sides and both ends, the surrounding area of the part you are claiming for and finally the damaged area itself. Digital images are good because they can be emailed. This keeps down the cost of any claims. XL Horticulture Ltd or their agents will investigate all claims. This will sometimes mean a visit to ascertain the validity of theclaim. XL Horticulture will charge for these visits unless the claim is substantiated. Occasionally a chemical analysis of thefilm will be taken of the film. This will entail XL Horticulture removing an area of the film, which they are entitled to do whetheror not the claim is substantiated.
IMPORTANT PLEASE READ
XL Horticulture's Greenhouse films are manufactured to the highest standard. However it makes no difference how good the film is if there are mechanical problems relating to the quality of the structure that the film is to be used on, or the way in which it is fixed. To ensure the validity of your warranty please be aware of and comply with the potential hazards and solutions. These hazards are the most common problems we come across and are for indication only but are not limiting.
Hazards
(A) Rust on Metalwork.
(B) Sharp edges on the joins of multi part hoops.
(C) Wires, strings etc tied onto the hoop, between the cover and the hoop.
(D) Sharp edges on ridge tube clamps.
(E) Over tensioning around localised points - typically around tunnel ends.
Under tensioning around localised points - typically around tunnel ends.
(G) Leaching out of chemicals from wood preservatives and chemical sprays.*
(H) Too close to heaters.
(I) Too close to sulphur burners.
(J) Chemical reaction from PVC foam based Anti Hot Spot Tape.
Solutions
(1) Hazards A.B.C and D can all be overcome by using only high quality PE foam Anti Hot Spot Tape (as supplied by XLHorticulture) over the top of the hazards.
(2) E. Over tensioning can lead to cracking and splitting. This usually occurs on the side of the tunnel close to the endhoop and is caused by over tensioning the polythene along the length of the tunnel. Take care to tension the polythene evenly.
(3) F. Under tensioning allows the polythene to flap in the wind. Unfortunately at some point this flapping is transferred into twisting and bending. The wind load is then transferred to these loose points, which is bad for the framework aswell as the polythene. If this happens the polythene will split.
(4) G. Leaching out of chemicals. We suggest that you find a water based wood preserver which is low in chlorine.
(5) H. Direct the heat at the plants, not the polythene.
(6) I. Tape a sacrificial piece of polythene about 3 metre square directly above the burner.
(7) J. Polythene breaks down in Sunlight. Polythene manufacturers incorporate an ingredient that slows down this process. Store all new films away from sunlight.
(8) Replace all damaged or suspect Anti Hot Spot Tape with with new XL Anti Hot Spot Tape or else cover with XL Anti Hot Spot Repair tape.
* SPECIAL NOTE - USE OF AGROCHEMICALS
Polythene is essentially a hydrocarbon compound and frequent applications of similar chemicals which contain the sameelements, which many of the pesticide and fungicide sprays do, will be absorbed by the film and act as a solvent, shorteningthe life of the UV stabilisers so that the cover does not last as long as its design life. This is also the case with some of thesoil fumigants. If it is not possible to cover the film with a sacrificial cover then wash clean with water after contact with anychemicals.
NEW from January 1st 2008 the sticker which is supplied with this tunnel cover MUST be stuck onto the INSIDE of the polythene once you have completed the cladding. This is part of the Warranty process. If you make a claim we need from the centre of the sticker. This will enable us to track when you bought the film (not easy after several years) , the width and type of film you purchased and then our sample of the master rolls, which can be analysed alongside your own.
This sticker will also give you a visual date when you purchased the film and also the width of the film and the type of film.
