XL Polythene
XL Horticulture was started 13 years ago and has been at the forefront of polythene film technology ever since.
Along with poly tunnel film we also supply CosyTex which is an alternative to fleece. It is made from UV stabilised thermal poly tapes. The main advantage of this is that it can be used for more than 1 season. Have a look at the CosyTex page to see how this could save you money with the new waste management laws that are now in place.
As well as offering some of the most advanced polytunnel covers and associated products on the market we also offer a fast delivery service. Our standard delivery is 2-3 working days from when you place your order but we can dispatch your order on an overnight service for a small additional charge.
All orders for a poly tunnel cover are rolled to order by our stores manager Garry who arranges all our deliveries and who can also track orders for you if they don’t arrive on time.
We are very focused on customer service here at XL so if you have any questions regarding any of our products then please call our offices and someone will be happy to help you out and may make your life a little easier with some expert advice on choosing a tunnel cover.
Not only do we offer some of the most advanced greenhouse films available today
, but we also have an environmental conscience. All our tunnel films are manufactured for us by Plastika Kritis in Crete who have built their own 12,000,000watt wind farm to lessen the impact our polythene has on the global environment. They also have their own recycling plant for old polythene. with a capacity of 4,000 MT/year. The plant is capable of handling industrial scrap from plastic factories, municipal plastic waste and, most importantly, used greenhouse films which are collected from the fields through a network the company has organised in the main agricultural areas of Greece.
The company's manufacturing facility in Iraklion-Crete is among the most modern worldwide in its field. Production equipment is of the latest technology, with a very high degree of automation, on-line computer monitoring and control. Many of these systems have been developed in-house by the company's Engineering Department. Computerised logistic systems have been established to facilitate handling of raw materials and finished products by use of bar-codes. The production system is highly flexible, permitting to manufacture economically even small lots of a variety of products in order to satisfy specific customer demands.
In 2003 a new 3-layer production line of US & German origin has been installed for increasing the production of specialised polytunnel films. The line is designed to process the latest generation of ultra-strong polyethylene resins and is controlled with a sophisticated computer system. A tailor-made double C-folding system with fully automated winders offers the possibility of different folding configurations and roll sizes for ease of storage, handling and installation. Increasing capacity by 50 % and at the same time improving flexibility and cutting-down response time, this new line stands at the forefront of PLASTIKA KRITIS' effort to be the No. 1 producer of poly tunnel films worldwide.
PLASTIKA KRITIS was the first company in the world to use 3-layer technology for producing greenhouse films (1983). It, therefore, possesses valuable experience in this state-of-the-art technology.
3-layer films consist of 3 inseparable layers of different polymers and additives. Each of them contributes to the quality of the film with its useful properties, thus combining all their advantages for optimum performance.
PLASTIKA KRITIS is the only agricultural films producer who manufactures in-house all additive concentrates (UV, IR, anti-drip, anti-fog, etc.) that provide to the films their special properties.
This offers to PLASTIKA KRITIS a unique flexibility in producing, at lower cost, a wide range of films adapted to the specific requirements of each area or crop. The in-house production of concentrates ensures the optimum selection of additives as well as the control of quality from A to Z, providing to the company a unique ability to combine competitive cost with outstanding quality.
