The soft fruit industry has undergone many changes over the past few years, changing from a short summer season of approximately 2 months to a season which is now more than twice that length.
Part of this expansion is due to new varieties which have extended the season, and part has been due to new low cost, low technology tunnels which lend themselves to large scale production. Because of their low cost there is a resurgence in Cut Flower crops in the U.K. using these field scale tunnels.
Because, so called, Spanish or French Tunnels are not designed to be left covered in winter they are not as strong as permanent structures and as they have to be stripped of polythene every Autumn the fixing systems have to be quick and simple to operate. They are fixed at the ends with a SPRING CLIP which holds the polythene onto the steel tube frame. Available in various sizes these are high quality, high strength passivated clips which are unaffected by temperature or sunlight (unlike plastic clips).
Ask us for a quote for your spring clips.
Tip. Because you use a clip which is approximately 5mm smaller than the tube size that you want to put them onto they are not easy to fit.
You will make the clips much easier to fit if you take them straight from a bucket of soapy water. They slip on easily and once the water has evaporated they don’t move.
